THE RIGHT DECISION BY FATIMA TAJ
Fatima
Taj is a renowned Pakistani English writer. The right decision is a story that
she wrote about herself. In this short story of two pages she explores the
moral values in eastern cultures, in eastern families.
She
starts her story by telling readers that a woman is busy in packing clothes of
her family because she with her family is migrating to New Zealand for bright
future. They have been deciding for last ten years to migrate.
They
are going to left behind an old father of woman (Fatima Taj), who is ill. She decides before
leaving that she should take her father to doctor so she can get know about her
father health conditions. Her father should be able to live alone behind him.
But doctor tells her that her father is suffering from Parkinson’s disease. And
light of her eyes is going to shut down.
Now
she starts thinking that is it better to leave for New Zealand or stay with his
father. Because it is not better to left father alone in this condition. So she
went to her husband Hamayun for advice. He retorts that he is not supposing her
to leave her father in that condition.
Her
husband says her that he is not going to build a gap between a father and a
daughter. So it is upon her. That if she wants to leave she can. If she wants
to stay with her father she can stay.
Her
husband further says to her do not worry about money or expenses, even about
visa/ticket. The best is what you select for your future.
After
thinking a lot she decides to cancel her migration to New Zealand and she
decides to live with her father.
This
story is a wonderful depiction of eastern culture that the people living
here are ready to sacrifice their desires, belonging and wealth for their parents.
How much they are respectful towards their parents. How much moral values they
have in them.
